OMNV (One Million New Votes) – Voter Registration Drives

OMNV or One Million New Votes is a B.PAC initiated campaign aimed at encouraging new voters into the electoral rolls who have not yet been registered. Voter registration drives are conducted across the city making it easier for the potential voters to get their names listed on the electoral roll. The primary aim of OMNV is to increase the voter enrolment/registration before the upcoming elections.

B.PAC strongly believes in greater citizen participation when it comes to voting by encouraging and aiding with voter registration and consequently, improve the quality of governance through increased voting. OMNV is a call to action for all Bengalureans to actively participate in the process of democracy and encourage others as well to do the same.

Voter Awareness Forum KIT

Under the OMNV initiative the “Voter Awareness Forum KIT” was conceptualized, which are a set of creatives/posters pre-designed with relevant information about voter enrolment, filled-in specimen copies of the application forms and other relevant info on voting. These creatives/posters were shared with many organisations, educational institutions and tech campuses to be displayed on their notice board so that anyone can get access to the basic information required for voter enrollment. The Voter Awareness Forum Kits were customized based on the location/organisation where it was set up.

Launch of Voter Information Centre at ELCIA campus

B.PAC and ELCIA in association with BBMP and Chief Electoral Officer Karnataka had organised the launch of the Voter Information Centre. The main objective of this centre is to help the people in addressing their queries regarding Voter IDs. Dr Vishwanath, Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Bengaluru South, addressed the gathering about the preparations made by the BBMP and the Election Commission of Karnataka and gave a demo of the EVMs and online registration for Voter IDs. He was also quick to redressing the issues put forth by the gathered crowd regarding registration of these IDs by contacting the respective BLO’s through the phone and suggesting them the necessary actions to be taken for its resolution. Ms. N.S. Rama, CEO of ELCIA, spoke about the problem of techies in Bengaluru and how we can solve those problems with the help of Voter Information Centres, a program initiated by the Election Commission of Karnataka.

The Voter Information Centre aids people from other states and districts in getting their voter IDs in a more easy and efficient manner. So far due to the time-consuming nature of this task, many potential voters shy away from getting themselves registered as noticed in the percentage of voters seen in the last constituency elections which was a disappointing 53%, ergo, 47% of the population didn’t vote. All these issues remind us to jointly work towards increasing the percentage of voters in the coming elections.
