About the Yuva Hasiru Rakshaka Program

The Yuva Hasiru Rakshaka (YHR) Program is an initiative by B.PAC (Bangalore Political Action Committee), in collaboration with TE Connectivity India Pvt. Ltd. and the Bengaluru Climate Action Cell (BCAC), to actively involve Bengaluru’s youth in building a climate-resilient city. The program empowers students to become ambassadors of environmental awareness and sustainability within their local communities, aligning directly with the objectives of the Bengaluru Climate Action and Resilience Plan (BCAP).

Yuva Hasiru Rakshaka (Youth Green Protector) aims to cultivate environmental consciousness and climate leadership among government school students through interactive and immersive training sessions, encouraging them to take ownership of eco-friendly practices in their GBA wards. To ensure long-term sustainability and widespread impact, a citywide network of Master Trainers is being developed to scale the program across neighbourhoods and embed environmental stewardship into everyday community life.

The Mission: Why it Matters

Climate change is no longer a distant threat—it is a local responsibility. The Yuva Hasiru Rakshaka program simplifies complex climate science into actionable steps. By empowering youth across Bengaluru and surrounding city corporations, we are fostering a new generation of environmentally conscious citizens committed to individual and collective social responsibility.

The Curriculum: From Awareness to Action

Our program is delivered through a high-quality "Master Trainer" model, ensuring standardised, impactful instruction. To keep our “Rakshakas” engaged, we utilise a vibrant, cartoon-style creative strategy. By translating complex topics like “Climate Resilience” into relatable, hopeful imagery, we move students away from “climate anxiety” and towards “climate agency”.

  • Session 1: The Warming World
Understanding the mechanics of Global Warming through the “Atmospheric Blanket” analogy and the science of greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4).
  • Session 2: Sources & Footprints
Moving from theory to accountability. Students perform audits of energy/water use and transport pollution while exploring the ethics of climate justice.
  • Session 3: Climate Action
Practical application of the 10 Rs Principle (Rethink, Refuse, etc.) and the M+A+R framework (Mitigation, Adaptation, and Resilience).
