On April 17, 2014, the much-awaited Indian General Election in Karnataka took place which was significant in heralding a new era of governance in Karnataka's political landscape. In a single-phase election, an estimated 65% of Karnataka's 4.62 crore voters cast ballots for 28 Lok Sabha seats, with the JDS, INC, and BJP competing closely. Bengaluru (Urban) voted in three Lok Sabha constituencies: Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, and Bangalore South. Bengaluru Rural had a substantially higher voter turnout of 66.45% than Bengaluru Urban, which had a voter turnout of 55.95%.
B.PAC launched Election Habba 2014, an election awareness campaign including numerous initiatives such as One Million Votes, Know Your Candidate, Citizens Meet Candidates, Candidate Endorsement, and Vote Bengaluru, to educate people and raise awareness about the Lok Sabha elections and candidates.
One Million New Votes
OMNV, or One Million New Votes, is a B.PAC-led initiative aiming at enlisting new voters who have not yet registered to vote in elections. The campaign was organised as a student competition with the goal of significantly increasing voter registration for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Know Your Candidate
An initiative aimed at raising public knowledge about the candidates running in the Lok Sabha Elections 2014 from various national parties, state parties, and independent candidates in Bengaluru's several constituencies.
Citizens Meet Candidate
Three major contending candidates from INC, JDS, and AAP were present for a panel discussion and engagement with over 450 citizens as part of B.PAC's 'Citizens Meet Candidates' initiative. The candidates' were asked to share their future plans once they come to power and what changes they will implement once in power.
Candidate Endorsement
In 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, there were many candidates including some incumbent MPs contested in three Bengaluru City Parliamentary Constituencies. We have identified Twelve candidates for endorsement for 2014 Karnataka Lok Sabha Election.
Vote Bengaluru
The final and most crucial aspect of the entire Election Habba campaign, Vote Bengaluru, focused on reminding Bengalureans of their responsibility as responsible citizens and motivating them to vote without fail. B.PAC, in collaboration with Radio One 94.3 FM, held a month-long radio campaign to educate citizens about the necessity of exercising their franchise and shared the vision and ambitions for Bangalore's future.
