India, the worlds largest democracy based on the principle of  “of the people, by the people, for the people.” Unity in diversity being the mantra India does not have one single official religion and no one religious text can become holy book for every Indian but yes there is one such book which defines our identity. We ourselves gave this script to us after two years eleven months debate over every issue concerning every Indian at the Constituent assembly chaired by Dr B R Ambedkar during the end of Freedom struggle. Post independence we became democratic Republic by adopting our own Constitution. The Constitution of India is that holy book which defines our identity in followings words:

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens:

JUSTICE, social, economic and political;

LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;

EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all

FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;

IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this twenty-sixth day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.

Above is the Preamble to The Constitution of India. It summarizes the idea of who we are as citizens and our fundamental rights. These 85 words are most sacred because while we are allowed to amend the constitution but basic structure shall not be changed. It’s a dynamic document which allowed India to adopt change. It’s very important that every citizen must know these words in preamble and recite like a prayer because this is the prayer for unity.

It shall be the duty of every citizen to abide by the constitution of India and also respect those individuals who were members of Constituent assembly. This year India is celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, father of Indian Constitution. I strongly believe Babasaheb is not leader of any sect or any group or any time. He is the hero of every Indian and of all time. His story of being an untouchable to becoming the architect of Indian Constitution is a story to be told and celebrated. But unfortunately we have undermined his contribution and restricted him to some section of society and some have even played enough politics with his personality. Our idea is to retell his story to new generation so that they get inspired by his life journey.

P. S – On coming Saturday we are installing a Preamble to the Constitution of India Wall at UB city followed by mass recitation where people from all walks of life are invited including cabinet ministers, film stars, corporate leaders, social leaders and young start up entrepreneurs. In a first of its kind gathering we will be paying tribute to Babasaheb by screening a special animated video and an art installation. I request all my fellow Indians to join us to demonstrate our unity to the world.

“Celebrating the Father of Indian Constitution” event on Saturday, 16th April, 5-7pm at UB City.
